The Model 280XP is especially efficient at chipping larger diameter material. By chipping at an angle, the 280XP consumes less fuel, vibrates less, and therefore provides the unit with extended knife-life and therefore operates with minimal maintenance while providing years of dependable service.
Key Features
The Model 280XP is a rugged, dependable chipper with an 18” x 20.5” chipper opening with engine options up to 225-horsepower.
Bandit’s 18” capacity disc-style chippers are more than just hand-fed chippers: the feed system is powerful enough to pull whole trees into the chipper. The Model 280XP has the throwing capacity to load a 45’ trailer. This rugged machine is a favorite with those involved in full tree takedowns and light land clearing. This unit is often fed with an optional knuckle-boom loader, winch, skid steer loader or crane.
Perfect for Whole Tree Takedowns
The 280XP’s are known as the toughest hand-fed chippers available on the market. Engine options are available ranging from 147 to 225 horsepower. Although the Model 280XP is a hand-fed chipper, it is often fed by a skid-steer or a front end loader and will chip whole trees, but is not designed to be force-fed.
Productivity
Powerful chip discharge systems and discharge adjustment options make it easy to deposit chips into a pile or to fully load chip vans, reducing the need to dump, saving on fuel costs associated with transporting chips to the dump site, while increasing the overall productivity.
Dual-Feed Wheel System
Wide infeed openings and powerful, horizontal dual-wheel feed systems crush and compress material and have the power to pull whole trees into the chipper, reducing the cost of converting trees and brush into chips. The dual wheel feed system on the 280XP generates 23,391 in/lbs. of torque for each feed wheel, along with 4,403 lbs. of pulling power to each feed wheel.
Standard and Heavy-Duty
The Model 280XP is one of the most versatile chippers on the market. Capable of chipping large diameter materials and whole trees, the Model 280XP is also available as a self-propelled track unit, making it one of the most maneuverable units on the market making it ideal for those clearing lots, maintaining ditches and those removing material for fire prevention.
Heavy-Duty Chipper
The heart of a hand-fed chipper is the chipper disc and housing. The Bandit 18” models are equipped with:
• 55” diameter by 2” thick disc with 1” steel backer at the pocket.
• Chipper shaft 5” diameter at the hub
• 2 solid pockets
• Heavy duty chipper base with a ½” front plate and ½” support gussets in anvil area
• 2-15/16” flange mount chipper roller bearings
• 55” diameter by 2” thick disc with 1” steel backer at the pocket.
• Chipper shaft 5” diameter at the hub
• 2 solid pockets
• Heavy duty chipper base with a ½” front plate and ½” support gussets in anvil area
• 2-15/16” flange mount chipper roller bearings
Built to Last
Heavy duty, rugged components ensure long life and trouble-free operation, even when chipping the big, tough materials. More than 850 Bandit Model 280’s are in operation worldwide. The ruggedness and dependability of these machines is key to their popularity and high resale value.
40 Gallon Steel Fuel Tank
The high capacity fuel tank should provide more than a days fuel supply for most applications. The tank is easy to drain should contaminants enter the tanks.
Patented Lift Assists
For the heavy duty 64” wide x 30” deep infeed pan that is standard on the Model 280XP, a spring loaded lift assist is also standard, making it easier to raise and lower the infeed pan of the chipper. Because of their size and strength, the heavy-duty fold down infeed pan of the larger Bandit chippers tends to be on the heavy side. The spring cushioned assists make it easy to raise and lower the infeed chute.
Torflex EZ-Lube Axles by Dexter
The 280XP is standard with a single 10,000 lb axle and (2) 235/75R 17.5” tires. The 280HD comes equipped with tandem 7,000 lb axles and (4) 235/85R 16” tires.
Wide Infeed Openings
All Bandit chippers have the widest possible infeed hopper openings. The chipper throat opening on the Model 280XP and 280HD is 20-½” wide by 18” high. The hopper opening is 33-¾” high by 64” wide. A wide opening allows multiple pieces to be fed and provides a bigger opening for limby or crotchy material, increasing production and reducing the amount of trimming required to process material. Operators are more productive and less fatigued.
Angled Chipper Feed
The Bandit 18” disc-style chippers are set at an approximate 45-degree angle to the flow of material into the chipper. That, in conjunction with the angle of the knife, provides a pulling action assisting the feed system in pulling material into the chipper. The pulling action of the chipper assists the feed system in getting wood from the feed system to the chipper knives. The angle feed is also a much easier way of cutting the material, which means the machine will chip with less vibration, consume less energy and fuel and will chip larger diameter materials with lower horsepower.
Powerful Dual Feed Wheels
Bandit’s Model 280XPs are equipped with two horizontal 20” wide x 10-5/8” diameter hydraulic feed wheels with 63.9 CID feed wheel motors with 23,000 in/lbs. of torque. The powerful dual wheel feed system makes it easy to chip large diameter material and multiple stems. It also makes it easy to feed limby material, reducing the need for trimming. Because the wheels are horizontal, gravity helps spread out the material, maximizing the surface area of the feed wheels.
Lift Cylinder Standard
All Model 280s are equipped with a standard hydraulic lift cylinder, enhancing the machine’s ability to process limby material with ease.
